Sophia Yau-Weeks’ debut album, Misty Mountain, chronicles her evolution from the pressures of classical training to therapeutic songwriting. Having turned to the acoustic guitar during pandemic isolation, she transformed music from a source of anxiety into a medium for emotional processing. The record, shaped by London’s independent music scene and the artist’s personal struggle with illness, was recorded to analog tape in Oakland as a deliberate rejection of instilled perfectionism. Combining intimate lyricism with themes of mental health, trauma, and resilience, the album delivers an atmospheric indie-folk sound inspired by Nick Drake, emphasizing the value of intuition and the acceptance of artistic imperfection.
