Manizeh’s debut album, “Mahku,” is a bold contribution to the contemporary spiritual jazz genre. Recorded at Berlin’s Funkhaus Studio in early 2025, the eight-chant project was co-produced by LEITER co-founder Felix Grimm and labelmate ganavya. Notably, the album features a reimagining of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” sung by Manizeh’s daughter, Mahku Rimer. The title “Mahku,” meaning “eclipse,” symbolizes intergenerational connection as it is the shared name of Manizeh’s grandmother and daughter. Developed from Manizeh’s chanting practice and creative partnership with ganavya, the album explores music as a timeless, intergenerational loop, featuring the voices of three generations of women and flowing through themes of ancestry, loss, and love.
